MOTION
Upon recommendation of Mamata Burgi, Procurement Manager, the Board of Water Commissioners for the City of Detroit, Water and Sewerage Department authorizes the Director to approve Amendment No. 1 to Contract No. 6001705 (LS-1900) to add $50,000 in funding, for a total amended contract amount of $300,000 for “MDEQ Related Legal Services” with Miller, Canfield, Paddock & Stone, P.L.C., and also authorizes the Director to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.
BACKGROUND
The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) entered into a contract with Miller, Canfield, Paddock & Stone, P.L.C. to provide legal representation, consultation and advice to DWSD in connection with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), Drinking Water and Municipal Assistance Division, Public Administrative Rules, generally referred to as the “Lead and Copper Rule” and other related matters.
The Director of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department approved the award of the initial contract, which was procured through an exception from competition, with Miller, Canfield, Paddock & Stone, P.L.C. on October 22, 2018 in the amount of $250,000.
JUSTIFICATION
Based on the information above, the DWSD General Counsel Division is requesting an additional $50,000 in funding, for a total amended contract amount of $300,000 for the remaining contract term for the continued legal services relating to the “Lead and Copper Rule.”
