MOTION
Upon recommendation of Chief of Staff and Chief Customer Service Officer, Matthew Phillips, The Board of Water Commissioners for the City of Detroit Water and Sewerage Department approves to “Revise the current EasyPay Payment Plan Agreement Policy” Adding section 6.6.2 of the policy and approve the City of Detroit Water and Sewerage Department’s EasyPay Payment Plan Agreement Policy, Revision 2 and authorizes the Director to take such action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.
JUSTIFICATION
The addition of 6.6.2 authorizes The Director and Deputy Director to amend the terms of this policy as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of EasyPay, as set forth in Article 2 (Purpose), of the EasyPay Payment Plan Policy as well as ratify any pre or post actions taken by management consistent herewithin.
BACKGROUND
Article 2, Purpose, 2.1, states: This policy affirms DWSD’s commitment to assist Customers who have accrued a past due balance and provides this payment plan that allows Customers to avoid legal action, service interruption and/or having their unpaid debt transferred to the property tax roll for collection due to the unpaid balance. The intent of adding 6.6.2 will allow the Director and Deputy Director to amend the terms of the policy to further assist and keep within the spirit of EasyPay, which is to assist our customers who are facing a hardship paying their water, sewer and drainage bills with the EasyPay program, to prevent a service interruption.
