MOTION
Upon recommendation and opinion of Samuel Smalley, Chief Operating Officer, the Board of Water Commissioners for the City of Detroit, Water and Sewerage Department authorizes the Director to execute a payment to the Great Lakes Water Authority for the cost to replace the Sewer Main Segment at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Campbell Street, for a one-time amount, not-to-exceed $1,453,629.36. This also authorizes the Director to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.
BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION

On July 29, 2023, a large sinkhole and water main break was reported at the intersection of Jefferson and Campbell in southwest Detroit. DWSD crews responded and found a broken
6-inch water main, which was promptly isolated. Upon further investigation into the sinkhole that developed, it was determined that a GLWA 42-inch transmission main had lost its bedding support due to the sinkhole and needed to be promptly supported to prevent breakage.
