“Various Lead Free Brass Fittings for a Three Year Period”

MOTION

Upon recommendation of Thomas Naughton, CFO, the Board of Water Commissioners for the City of Detroit, Water and Sewerage Department authorizes the Director to secure a contract with Motor City Pipe & Supply for Various Lead Free Brass Fittings for a Three (3) Year Period for a total amount of $1,643.894.22, and also authorizes the Director to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.

BACKGROUND

In 2014, the federal government mandated that potable water brass parts must be lead-free. This contract will furnish lead-free brass fittings of various sizes and types and will also serve to replenish stock levels preventing emergency spot buys and possible work stoppage.

 JUSTIFICATION

This contract will serve to ensure that brass fittings are available for repairing water service connections for DWSD customers.

The bids as follow are for a three (3) year contract period:

BIDDERS

Motor City Pipe & Supply equalized bid is $1,643,894.22. (Please note Motor City Pipe & Supply received equalization credit for being a Detroit Based Business)

Wright Tool Co. bid is $2,073,435.00

Audio Visual Equipment (AVE) bid is $3,793,881.51.

PROCUREMENT METHOD

This was an open competitively bid contract. The Request for Proposal (RFP) was advertised during the week of October 30, 2017 and opened November 27, 2017 on the Michigan Inter-Governmental Trade Network (MITN) website. This requirement was solicited to over one hundred forty four (144) companies in MITN on RFP 70010 which yielded three (3) responsive, responsible bidders.

Purchasing recommends awarding a three (3) year contract to the lowest responsive, responsible bidder, Motor City Pipe & Supply, and requests approval of the contract amount of $1,643,894.22.
