MOTION
Upon recommendation of Thomas Naughton, Chief Finance Officer, the Board of Water Commissioners for the City of Detroit, Water and Sewerage Department authorizes the Director to secure a contract to "Furnish Conversion and Breakable Fire Hydrants" with EJ USA INC, (Sole Source) for a duration of three (3) years at a cost not to exceed $5,205,100.92 and also authorizes the Director to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.
BACKGROUND
The Stores Operations function is to secure, store and issue materials to various DWSD operations from its inventory, or through special requests from its internal customers. This proposed three (3) year contract will provide Stores Operations the ability to issue hydrants, as needed, to using departments. The conversion and breakable hydrants will be used throughout the City of Detroit to gain direct access to water mains. The conversion hydrants are used to replace the old standard hydrant when digging into the ground is not necessary. The breakable hydrants are required when digging and pipe replacement is necessary; resulting in a need to replace the old hydrant. This material will be maintained as inventory and then issued as replacement parts, upon request.
