MOTION
Upon recommendation of Mamata Burgi, Purchasing Manager, the Board of Water Commissioners for the City of Detroit, Water and Sewerage Department authorizes the Director to approve DWSD Amendment No. 1 to a contract with Motor City Pipe & Supply Company for critical gate box parts; the amendment adds $64,000 in funding for a total amended contract not-to-exceed amount of $233,048.05, and extends the term for an additional 6 months. The BOWC also authorizes the Director to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.
BACKGROUND / JUSTIFICATION
DWSD warehouses secures, stores and issues various parts and supplies from its inventory, including gate box parts. Gate boxes, similar to curb stop boxes, are access points to gate valves that turn water off and on during repairs. The magnetically locatable boxes are of an exceptionally strong plastic which protects the valve/utility services by resisting moisture, corrosion, UV and temperature changes. Gate box repair parts aid in extending the life of the boxes by decreasing the replacement of the gate boxes.
Therefore, an amendment is being requested to add funds and extend the term of this contract for an additional 6 months to allow for time to competitively solicit and award a new long term contract for the purchase of gate box parts.
PROCUREMENT METHOD
This contract was originally competitively solicited through a Request For Bids (RFB) and was awarded to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, Motor City Pipe & Supply Company, which is a certified Detroit Based Business. The initial contract was approved by the BOWC on June 21, 2017.
