MOTION

Upon recommendation of Thomas Naughton, CFO, the Board of Water Commissioners for the City of Detroit, Water and Sewerage Department authorizes the Director to secure a one-time purchase with Johnson Control Inc. (JCI) for HVAC Roof-Top Units for a total amount not to exceed $419,933.00 and also authorizes the Director to take such other action as may be necessary to accomplish the intent of this vote.

BACKGROUND and JUSTIFICATION

The CSF facility has been awaiting replacement parts and updates to its HVAC system, roof, lighting systems, etc. for a few years now. The serial numbers on current units indicate an approximate age of 23 years - far exceeding the roof-top-units' operational life expectancy. The evaluation also noted that "the units appear to be in a serious state of deterioration".

Due to these very old and inoperable heating, ventilation and cooling units currently on the roof of the building, certain key areas of the facility such as the central warehouse, drainage team's area and carpenter's shop are very cold in the winter and extremely hot in summer - this has caused unsafe working conditions in both winter & summer due to extreme temperatures.
